The Spotlight

When I was in junior high and high school, we were required to take electives that included a day of job shadowing. Our school had partnered with several businesses in the local community, and we got to select which one we wanted to visit for the day to learn about what it's like to work in that profession. Let's just say I didn't really take it junior high I chose the bakery so I could get some free cinnamon swirl bread (heaven!), and in high school I chose cosmetology so I could get a free manicure. I didn't become serious about what I wanted to choose as a major until I started applying for college admission and scholarships. Looking back now, I believe this was mostly because I just didn't know what I wanted to be. I had interests and hobbies but nothing I wanted to make into a profession. I dabbled in many different things but there wasn't anything I was for sure I wanted to do.

One of the things about Usborne and Kane Miller books that give me major warm Mom fuzzies is that they do such a fantastic job at helping kids explore a variety of different interests. From a young age, they can explore so many different hands-on activities that also teach important academic concepts. A huge perk of being a Book Lady is that we have the opportunity to provide our kiddos with so many different books to help them find topics and activities. I love to get my girls activity books to try out to see what their interests are, and I love to see them find something new that they get excited about.

It doesn't take long before kids start telling us what they want to be when they grow up. I love helping my girls develop their talents and explore new hobbies and interests with our awesome books! I love it so much that I decided to incorporate this idea in my VIP Group. Introducing...The Spotlight!

The Spotlight was designed to highlight different careers so kiddos can see what they're like from day to day. Think of it as a digital job shadow! The picture shown above is my awesome husband who was sweet enough to be my first Spotlight. I have a special section dedicated to career highlights that Literary Ladies members can submit information about their careers and I will feature it in my VIP Group. I love this because it's a great way to help parents get even more involved with their children's education.

Here is the Google Form I created for my VIP Group to submit to be featured in The Spotlight. You are welcome to use the information included this form for your VIP Group as well, don't forget to personalize it and make it your own!

If you or someone you know has a super cool job and you would like to share with us what makes it the best job ever, please fill out and submit this form: The Spotlight - Job Shadow Form. If you would a relevant picture to be included as well, please email your photo to!
